Vietnam 30 November 2009 Groupama, a mutual insurance company with 16 million members, is seeking to host a fellow in Can Tho, Viet Nam. The company has operated in Vietnam since 1992 and plans to pilot and launch its microinsurance products in February 2010. As a priority, the company will explore offering hospitalization coverage and benefits to allow students to continue their education. The fellow will work towards launching this microinsurance initiative through carrying out market research within low income communitites, and designing a microinsurance product that will meet the needs of this target group. Subsequently they will design the marketing strategy for the microinsurance programme. An interest in and understanding of the socioeconomic conditions of low income populations in Vietnam is essential, as well as marketing experience. Candidates will also have 3 - 5 years professional insurance experience, and be fluent in Vietnamese, English, and French.
Geneva 16 November 2009 Reporting to the Chief Project Manager, the Grant Officer is responsible for reviewing proposals for innovation grants and capacity building services, preparing and issuing contracts, and monitoring contract performance. The officer will collaborate with the Senior Grants Officer and other team members in documenting lessons learned from grant recipients. The Microinsurance Innovation Facility encourages persons with relevant insurance expertise to apply their skills to solving key microinsurance challenges, which include managing huge volumes of small policies, marketing insurance to persons with limited education, collecting premiums from people without bank accounts, controlling adverse selection, moral hazard and fraud, and verifying and paying small claims. Interested applicants should have a first level university (Master being preferred) degree in economics, finance or actuarial science, social science, international studies or other relevant field, at least five years of professional experience in the insurance industry, two years experience working in developing countries with low-income households, and familiarity with grant making processes.
India Ongoing The Micro Insurance Academy (MIA) is recruiting an Actuary, to be based in New Delhi. The Actuary will be responsible for strengthening MIA’s capacities for providing a large bandwidth of services in the micro insurance sector, extending beyond the present priority area of health. Tasks will include:  pricing for insurance packages on the basis of restricted information, especially on the basis of time series analysis; developing and pricing reinsurance systems for the micro insurance programmes of MIA; developing new business areas, including outside the priority area of health; and developing a risk monitoring mechanism for micro insurance programmes. The candidate must be a national of a European country (or have double nationality, so long as one is an EU country). A competitive salary and benefits package is offered.
Jordan 30 November 2009 Women's World Banking is a global network of 41 leading microfinance institutions from 29 countries. They have recently developed the "Caregiver" health insurance program to help women clients and their families to better cope with the financial burdens often associated with a medical emergency. The first network member to pilot the Caregiver Insurance is MicroFund for Women, Jordan. The fellow will be expected to contribute to the pilot launch and implementation of the Caregiver Insurance Program in Jordan. In addition, the fellow will take an active role in expanding and adapting this insurance coverage to a second pilot country. The fellow will initially be located in Jordon, and subsequently in the second pilot country, as yet unspecified.
India 30 November 2009 ICICI Prudential Life Insurance Co Ltd., a joint venture between ICICI Bank Ltd. and Prudential Plc. U.K., is seeking to host a fellow in New Delhi, India. ICICI Prudential has recently launched a microinsurance project for the tea tribes in Assam, India, and is now seeking to expand its work in the microinsurance sector.
The fellow will join the ICICI Prudential team dedicated to designing the strategy for emerging rural markets, and will contribute to the formulation of a microinsurance strategy. The role will include assimilating relevant primary and secondary research findings and designing a microinsurance model on the basis of learnings and experience.
Mongolia Until position filled Prime General Daatgal (PGI), a leading insurer in Mongolia, is seeking to host a fellow in Ulaanbaatar. PGI provides innovative solutions carefully tailored to the needs of low-income households. The fellow will be responsible for helping to develop PGI's long term microinsurance strategy, as well as developing technical capacity within the PGI team. PGI has a young team and would like a professional with considerable experience in the microinsurance field to develop staff capacity in areas such as: product design and pricing, monitoring and evaluation, streamlining the administrative and claims processes, and customer services.
PGI have a team-based decision making culture and value "alternative thinking", and seek an individual who will thrive in this environment.
The fellowship is an opportunity for an experienced microfinance professional to contribute to the development of the microinsurance sector in Mongolia. The PGI fellow will need to have a good command of spoken and written English.
