Workplace Well-Being and SafeWork

[ Menu ]

The whole Workers' Health Promotion and Well-being at Work Programmes website is new, in the sense that it has been completely revised and updated to make it more useful and to mark its inclusion in the new global ILO Programme on SafeWork.

This does not mean that the ILO's work in the field of workplace well-being is new. What has changed is that, within the scope of the Programme on SafeWork, the ILO's programmes in a number of areas which relate to workplace health and well-being have been brought together to form a more coherent whole.

The purpose of this restructuring is not only to focus the ILO's action. It also reflects the approach that is now being adopted by many enterprises and organizations, particularly in certain industrialized countries, and therefore disseminates leading-edge practice more widely.

It had become fairly common in some industrialized countries, often under the stimulus of legislative measures, to adopt programmes targetting specific health problems, and particularly drug and alcohol abuse. More recently, there has been a growing trend for the development of global health promotion policies by employers and their partners covering not only drug and alcohol problems, but also a whole range of lifestyle issues including smoking, diet, exercise and mental well-being.

This website therefore disseminates knowledge and good practice relating to many areas of workplace health and well-being. In particular, as befits an Organization with the underlying principles of tripartism and social dialogue, the main instrument proposed is the development of consensual policies and measures. These are designed to achieve a wide measure of support and agreement in

Being new, this website is still under development. Your comments and suggestions on the website's current and future content are welcome, especially at this early stage. Send us an e-mail at safework@ilo.org.
