National Seminar Held to Raise Awareness of International Labour Standards in Eritrea, 2-4 August 2007
A three-day national seminar organized and facilitated by SRO-Cairo examined the
situation of the Labour Law in Eritrea and raised awareness of international
labour standards among the 48 participants, representing high-ranking officials
from the Ministry of Labour and Human Welfare (MLHW), the National Confederation
of Eritrean Workers (NCEW) and the Employers’ Federation of Eritrea (EFE).
Activities included:

An introduction to the
ILO’s mandate and its supervisory system
-
An in-depth discussion of
the eight fundamental ILO Conventions (C.111, C.100, C.98, C.87, C.29,
C.105, C.138 and C.182)
-
A reminder of the Director-General’s campaign to promote the ratification of the ILO
constitutional amendment on the abrogation of obsolete conventions
-
Design of a plan of action to chart the way forward
Further workshops to develop an in-depth knowledge of Conventions C.122, C.81 and C.129 are being
considered to complement this awareness raising event.
