The workshop aims at improving the level of member countries' public vocational training by introducing good examples and exchanging opinions on the issues like public vocational training centre's role in IT era among others.
Envisaged the important of information sharing and networking among member countries using APSDEP website as effective tool, Japan's Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare, the APSDEP major donor, had initiated the set up of this Meeting. Selected member countries (as participants) will have the opportunity to discuss and provide inputs on the development of the website. The goal is to find ways to fully utilize the existing website and to become effective tool for dissemination of information of ILO/APSDEP member countries.

Programmes in Year 2001
The Meeting's objectives are to announce the reform process of APSDEP and to hear member countries' opinions.
The Meeting will bring together participants from 7 countries, who are involved in policy-making, to share experiences and best practices on Technical Vocational Education and Training (TVET) for rural development with focus on women economic empowerment.
The training course is designed for trainers to promote the use of numerically controlled equipment and focus on the education transferable to other trainers and trainees in their home countries. The Meeting's main objective is to convene APSDEP member countries to identify the future strategies and activities of the APSDEP programme. The training course is intended for high-level trainers and Information Technology (IT) specialists from public and private training institutions and systems involved in the design and implementation of training activities. As a result of the regional workshop on life-long learning in enterprises in March 2001, there is a recognised need to map out the components of life-long learning systems in various countries and to identify appropriate roles for workers, employers, and the government in promoting a conductive policy environment for life-long learning at both the enterprise and national levels. National follow-up workshop has therefore been proposed in Vietnam. Programmes in Year 2000
The workshop involved a combination of presentations and discussions from resource persons, ILO specialists and participants on gender issues, the ILO's community-based training (CBT) methodology and experiences.
A training course designed for vocational training instructors to upgrade their knowledge and technology through the mutual exchange of up-to-date information and to link basic theories and practical experiences applicable to the industries of the participants' home countries in the field of advanced technology (CAD/CAM, CNC and Multimedia).
The Meeting brought about greater sensitivity to participants on the importance of social dialogue in vocational training and identified training challenges and critical issues which were of common concern to the social partners. Representative of Rengo, the Japanese Trade Union Confederation, also presented emerging issues on sustainable human resource development. This workshop brought together participants to discuss strategies to further develop competency standard for enterprises, including the RMCS (Regional Model of Competency Standards), and other aspect of skill recognition including qualifications framework and core work skills. This workshop focused specifically on the application of NTT to curriculum design, with particular emphasis on accessing on-line resources and materials from the Internet to design training course content. This 4-day workshop combined subject-specific presentations by ILO and Japanese resource persons with group work discussions and presentations on specific training and life-long learning issues. The workshop also included presentations on the promotion of life-long learning in Japan and a study visit to selected Japanese enterprises. |
