WHY Forced labour is a major global problem. There are at least 12.3 million victims in the world today. Asia has by far the most forced labourers, followed by Latin America and Africa. Forced labour can be abolished – but only if Governments and national institutions have active policies, vigorous enforcement and a strong commitment to eradicating this despicable treatment of human beings.
